"Saturday Night Live" celebrated its 40th birthday by hosting a three-and-a-half-hour special on Sunday.

The star-studded "SNL40" featured a reboot of the popular "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketch. Along with reprisals of Will Ferrell's Alex Trebek, Norm Macdonald's Burt Reynolds and Darrell Hammond's fan-favorite Sean Connery, the sketch introduced two new characters to the "Celebrity Jeopardy" stage: Kate McKinnon's Justin Bieber and Jim Carrey's Matthew McConaughey.

The evening also saw the revival of famous sketch (and the subject of two movies) "Wayne's World."

Former cast-member Maya Rudolph brought back one of her most beloved impressions, Beyoncé, during a skit that also featured Opera Man, the Blues Brothers, and Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer's Marty and Bobbi Culp .

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Jane Curtin hosted the special's "Weekend Update, with plenty of guest appearances from Ed Norton as Stefon (joined by Bill Hader's Stefon) and the one and only Land Shark.

In honor of two former cast members who are no longer here, Emma Stone paid homage to Gilda Radner's Roseanne Roseannadanna and Melissa McCarthy appeared as Chris Farley's Matt Foley.

The show launched with a cold open from none other than Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake, who sang and rapped a history of the show, which launched in October 1975.

TODAY's own Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Carson Daly and Al Roker helped launch the event by hosting the evening's red carpet pre-show.

The show welcomed back dozens of former cast members and popular hosts, including Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Eddie Murphy, who returned for the first time in more than 30 years.
